Going Green Saves Green

Seriously! I saved $500/year in like 10 minutes. All I had to do was change my auto insurance.

My new provider is seriously sweet! Not only did I get a discount on my premium for going paperless, but they are also going to plant a tree! How cool is that!
It pays (literally) to have a good driving record and paying in full. Our discounts saved us an extra $100/half year.

How to shop for car insurance

There's a little bit of work involved, but it's not that bad, plus hey, your saving money right?

1. Request an insurance quote online. There are plenty of sites, Insurance.com or Esurance.com are 2 of the top ones. Have your current policy handy to help you fill it out.

2. Within minutes your inbox will flooded with quotes. I created a new folder to store them all in. You can take a look at them, and decide which ones look decent, and which ones are outragous. When you are looking at them, be sure to compare them with what you currently have/want to have. I have one that was signifacantly cheaper than the rest. It made me a little skeptical, and when I looked at it, it barely included the minimum requirements for my state. Others will try to oversell you. I had a bunch that included car rental deals. I've never rented a car in my life! If I do, then I guess I'm paying out of my pocket, but I'm not going to throw $50 or so away every year just in case I might rent a car and want to save 80% on it.

3. Take your top 2 or 3 quotes and compare them to your current insurance policy and each other.

4. Once you've decided give them a call, or shoot them an email to seal the deal. You will want to have your current policy and your driver's licence. Be sure to ask if you are eligable to any discounts (good driver, safety restraints, AAA, alumni of a certain school, or going paperless).

5. Enjoy your savings!

i also did this a few months ago and I'm saving about the same amount per year its amazing how much it allows me to throw at my credit cards and still have the same coverage for my car =)
